Hundreds turned up for a free medical services camp organized by the Kabaka’s foundation dubbed “Tubere Balamu health camp”.
Tubere Balamu, is an initiative implemented through the Kabaka Foundation, to deliver free medical services across Buganda’s 18 counties.
The two health day camp held at Kangulumira health centre and Kayunga hospital from Sept,15-17 was officially launched by Prince Khalifan Kakungulu on behalf of his majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi 11.
During the camp people received free medical services that included, screening, eye and dental services, HIV/AID testing, management of Non Communicable diseases(NCDs) and also blood donation drive. International Paramedical and Nursing school- Maya, I&M Bank Uganda and Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) supported the outreach.
In his message Kabaka, emphasized the need to improve the welfare of health workers saying that many of them have gone to diaspora for better enumerations.
“we have lost many people in our medical facilities due to lack of enough specialists to handle their cases. Many of the specialists left the country for better pay abroad,” he said.
Dr Grace Stephen Sseruyange the Director of International Paramedical and Nursing Schools- maya, commended the efforts put in place by Kabaka’s foundations and private entities especially in organizing free medical camps, saying that the kingdom gives health first as priority.
He said that their participation in the camp was to offer free services to ensure people in the kingdom can access free medical treatment.
“our team has worked on hundreds of people here for different ailments including, dental, testing, malaria screening among others,”
Sseruyanga also first Deputy Ssebwana urged people in medical profession to support the initiative because it aims at improving access to health care in the kingdom.
Retired Bishop Henry Katumba also vice chair- Kabaka’s foundation said that Tubeere Balamu is an initiative of the Kabaka, implemented through the Kabaka Foundation, to deliver free medical services across Buganda’s 18 counties. ends
