LoP Ssenyonyi among 1,000 graduating from UCU

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Mr Joel Ssenyonyi,is among more than 1,000 students who have graduated from Uganda Christian University (UCU) after being conferred with various education awards.

Speaking at the 26th graduation ceremony at the university’s campus in Mukono on Friday , the Archbishop of Uganda, Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, asked graduands to carry forward the academic knowledge, values of faith, and integrity they had received at the university and restrain themselves from corrupt tendencies.

Dr Kaziimba urged the graduands to remain faithful and positive in all circumstances
“Today, you leave the gates of UCU as ambassadors of faith, knowledge and service. Let us continue to serve with love, to live with integrity and build a better Uganda and a world for generations to come,” he said.

The university vice chancellor, Mr Aaron Mushengyezi, called upon graduates to go out and become problem solvers, and not just as spectators, lead with humanity, speak with truth and serve people with passion.

“The world needs principle-driven leaders who stand for what is right as they inspire positive change. Be a light in darkness and a voice of hope wherever you go. Let your work reflect your values and honour God wherever you go,” he said.

Prof Alfred Olwa, the university council chairperson, urged them to let their education shine in their career and character, “and as you climb, stay rooted in your value, your identity in Christ and love of those who help you.”

According to LoP , who was conferred with a Master’s degree in Organisational Leadership and Management, “I always encourage my fellow MPs to have value addition to avoid equivalent qualifications all the time. I chose a leadership course because the big elephant in parliament is corruption, and to see the perspectives out there on corruption and how it is affecting service delivery.”

“According to the Inspectorate government, we lose over 10 trillion shillings per year. URA’s annual collections are about Shs30 trillion, and a third of that is stolen. We need to hit corruption on the head. Let’s make the system water-tight so that it becomes difficult for people to steal money,” Mr Ssenyonyi.
