KAMPALA

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga has dismissed as baseless reports that she has bowed out of the race for the position of the national vice chairperson (female) in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC).

This followed social media reports that Ms Kadaga who is seeking re-election had stepped down in favour of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among who is also eying the same most coveted female position within NRM .
“Whoever is circulating that information is a celebrated liar . I Rebecca Kadaga I am still in the race and I will not pull out ,” she said immediately after being nominated at the NRM electoral commission offices in Kampala on Thursday.

“We needed a woman’s voice on the NRM Central Executive Committee,” she added
Ms Kadaga,69 who Kamuli District Woman legislator and former Speaker of Parliament commended the NRM electorate for putting their trust in her and called for further support for the next five years.

“I am the inaugural chairperson and am still the chairperson and am still going to be the chairperson. I want to assure the members of NRM that I will work as hard as I have been able to. I will work to influence policies as I have done, I will work to influence legislation, and I will work to influence programs of NRM,” she said.
The Central Executive Committee is the top decision-making organ of the NRM.
