NUP drops Kasolo for Jinja City mayoral seat in favour of Mubarak Kirunda

JINJA .The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has given its ticket for Jinja City Mayoral race to youthful Mubarak Kirunda, dropping the incumbent Alton Peter Kasolo .


Kasolo, who had only served for one term started losing ground during his first year in office when he started hobnobbing with big wigs in in the ruling National Resistance Movement .


Kirunda , currently mayor Jinja Central Division has been chosen because of his firm grassroots support and developmental mindset .He promises to turn around the city within six months in office .


“…I have nearly two decades of experience as Jinja Central Division chairperson, and I pledge to activate and complete projects initiated during my tenure…,” he said.


The 49- year- old Kirunda hails from Bujagali in the then Budondo sub county and is son to Hajji Abu Menya .


According to the list of flag bearers released for Jinja City released by NUP Elections Management Committee , Simon Kasirye will hold the party flag in Jinja South Division East mayoral race , Ayub Wabiika ( Jinja North Division Mayor) . These ones will compete with candidates other parties will field for the same positions .
