Police arrest three suspects over kidnapping two children in Buikwe

BUKWE.Police, working jointly with sister security agencies, have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of two children from Bujowali Zone in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.

The suspects have been identified as Richard Odongo, Derick Nkuruziza and Dan Kasaija , whom police allege was the overall commander of the group involved in the abduction.

According to Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke ,a firearm suspected to have been used in criminal activities was recovered during the security operation.

Police said the incident occurred on September 7, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m, when two armed and masked men allegedly attacked the home of a man identified as Mr Mugabanya while he was away.

At the time of the attack, the children were reportedly watching television under the care of domestic workers.

The attackers allegedly injured the domestic workers after they raised an alarm, before confining them in a bedroom and fleeing with two of the children.

The kidnappers later allegedly demanded a ransom of Shs100 million.

Police said investigations led to the arrest of Odongo and Nkuruziza, followed by Kasaija, who is alleged to have been receiving and withdrawing ransom money in Kampala.

The joint security agencies are continuing investigations into the case and the suspects’ alleged involvement in the kidnapping.
