
KAMPALA. Pope Leo X1V has appointed His Grace Most Rev. Emmanuel Obbo , the Archbishop of Tororo as the apostolic administrator of Jinja Diocese .
This follows the dead of Rt.Rev Charles Martin Wamika who died on October 22 ,2025 .
Rev Obbo’s appointment was communicated in a statement issued on Wednesday evening by Fr George Kwami Kouwonou , the overseer the Apostolic affairs of Nunciature in Uganda .
“ The Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda has the pleasure to announce that on 29 October 2025 , His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed His Grace Most Rev. Emmanuel Obbo, AJ Metropolitan Archbishop Of Tororo , Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Jinja ,” the statement reads in part
“The Apostolic Nunciature expresses its gratitude to His Grace Emmanuel Obbo and invokes abundant blessings upon his pastoral ministry in that local Church ,” it adds
Bishop Wamika, aged 72, was remembered by fellow clergy as a man of faith and perseverance.
About Bishop Wamika
Born on August 12, 1953, to Bartholomew and Catherine Naula Wamika, he hailed from the Baisekisige clan of the Bagwere.
Educated at Nagongera Seminary, Katigondo, and Ggaba Major Seminary, Wamika was ordained in 1979.
He served as a teacher, rector, and later as Vicar General of Tororo Archdiocese before his episcopal ordination in 1994. He became Bishop of Jinja in 2010.
