Pride Bank Honoured for Transforming Agriculture Through Innovative Credit Solutions

Pride Bank Limited has received the prestigious Agri-Finance Award (Credit Finance) at the 2025 Annual Agricultural Awards, recognizing its outstanding contributions to Uganda’s agricultural sector.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence and Innovation in Agriculture,” brought together stakeholders from the agricultural, financial, government, and development sectors to celebrate institutions driving agricultural transformation.

Pride Bank was recognized for its innovative, inclusive, and scalable credit solutions that have significantly impacted agricultural productivity and financial inclusion. The bank’s rural outreach strategy, customized loan products for farmers, and end-to-end value chain financing model were praised for empowering smallholder farmers and agribusinesses across the country.

Receiving the award on behalf of the institution, Joseph Kiggundu Lwanga Mugerwa, Manager of Agri-Business and Green Finance at Pride Bank, remarked.

“This recognition is both humbling and affirming. At Pride Bank, our purpose is to transform lives responsibly. Agriculture is the cornerstone of Uganda’s economy, and we have made it a priority to invest in the people who till the land, feed the nation, and drive rural development. This award is a tribute to their resilience and our shared vision.”

In 2025 alone, Pride Bank disbursed over Shs62 billion in agricultural loans, supporting more than 13,000 clients across the agricultural value chain—from production to processing and marketing.

The bank’s flagship product, the Pride Agricultural Loan, has stood out for offering affordable credit, flexible repayment plans, and complementary financial literacy programs. Pride Bank’s approach to value chain financing helps mitigate production risks and ensures predictable cash flows for farmers by connecting them with processors and markets.

Additionally, strategic partnerships with farmer cooperatives, Sacco’s, and agricultural extension workers have allowed the bank to offer more than just financial support. These collaborations have fostered capacity building and entrepreneurship within rural communities.

Leveraging digital technology, Pride Bank has enhanced access to its Agri-finance services through mobile banking, agent networks, and USSD platforms bridging financial gaps for farmers in remote and underserved regions.

The award also aligns with Uganda’s national development priorities under Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV, which position agriculture as a critical sector for inclusive economic growth.

Speaking at the event, Steven Byantware, Commissioner for Crop Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, applauded Pride Bank for its role in making agricultural credit more accessible and impactful.

This recognition cements Pride Bank’s role as a leading player in agricultural finance and a dependable partner for farmers and agribusinesses working toward sustainable growth.

The Agri-Finance Award not only Honors the bank’s past achievements but also reaffirms its commitment to financing the future of agriculture in Uganda.
