The Rotaract Club of Kigo 7 Lakes Golf has completed the first phase of its Ubuntu: Compassion in Action project at Wisdom Hub Nursery and Primary School in Katende, Mpigi District, marking a major step in improving the school’s learning environment.
The initiative, which focused on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, saw the club renovate and paint the school’s washrooms, connect toilets to running water, and install cisterns. The upgrades are expected to improve hygiene, restore dignity, and promote better health among pupils.
Alongside the renovations, the rotaractors donated essential materials, including clothes, storybooks, exercise books, mosquito nets, chalk, liquid soap, and buckets — all aimed at enhancing learning and wellbeing at the school.
The newly improved facilities were commissioned on October 4, 2025, during a ceremony that drew excitement from pupils, teachers, and community members. The event was filled with song and dance as learners celebrated the changes brought by the project.
Mr. Katongole, the Chairman of Katende Village, commended the club for its compassion, noting that the project would benefit both the school and the wider community. He said the improvements would help foster better learning conditions and hygiene standards for the children.
Headteacher Walusimbi Moses described the intervention as a timely boost, saying the renovated facilities will reduce absenteeism and enhance comfort, particularly for learners with special needs. He praised the club for its practical approach to community service, which he said reflects true empathy and partnership.
The completion of Phase One lays a solid foundation for the next stages of the Ubuntu Project, which seeks to promote dignity, inclusion, and improved educational outcomes for children in under-resourced schools.
