RwandAir has reported a strong early response to its newly launched Kigali, Zanzibar, Mombasa route, signalling growing demand for direct regional connections linking East Africa’s business and leisure destinations.
The new triangular service which operates four times a week connects Rwanda’s capital with the Indian Ocean tourism hubs of Zanzibar and Mombasa. The route is designed to simplify travel for both leisure and business passengers while strengthening regional tourism and trade links.
According to the airline, passenger uptake during the first days of operation has been encouraging, with travellers quickly embracing the convenience of seamless travel between the three cities. The launch was marked by ceremonial receptions at the coastal airports, reflecting the route’s importance to regional tourism stakeholders.
RwandAir’s Chief Commercial Officer, Fouad Caunhye, said the early performance of the route confirms the airline’s strategy of strengthening intra-African connectivity.
“This service is already demonstrating its potential to support tourism, regional integration, and seamless mobility across East Africa,” Caunhye said.
To build on the momentum, RwandAir has introduced seasonal promotional fares aimed at stimulating travel during the festive and early year holiday period. The airline is offering network wide discounts on tickets booked before the end of December with travel extending into the first quarter of next year. Additional special fares are available for travellers flying during the Christmas period.
The promotional fares are positioned to attract both regional and international travellers with competitive all inclusive pricing designed to make coastal destinations more accessible from Rwanda and neighbouring markets.
The return to Mombasa also marks RwandAir’s renewed presence in Kenya’s coastal aviation market while Zanzibar becomes one of the airline’s newest destinations. Industry observers say the route enhances RwandAir’s role as a regional connector, linking land locked countries to key tourism gateways.
RwandAir operates a modern fleet serving destinations across Africa and beyond from its Kigali hub. The successful start of the new route underscores the airline’s broader strategy of expanding its regional footprint while supporting tourism growth and economic integration across East Africa.
