SEMBABULE. Former Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa has been honoured by Sembabule District after a road and the district administration building were named in his recognition for decades of public service.
Thousands of residents, political leaders, diplomats, religious leaders and Members of Parliament attended a thanksgiving ceremony at Sembabule Playground celebrating Kutesa’s contribution to the district and the country.
Before the ceremony, Kuteesa also fformer Mawogola North Member of Parliament commissioned the Sam Kutesa Road, which links Sembabule Health Centre IV to the Sembabule–Mubende Road, before proceeding to the district headquarters where leaders unveiled the Sam Kahamba Kutesa Building.
Sembabule District Chairperson Patrick Nkalubo said the district resolved to immortalise Kuteesa because of his contribution to its development.
“Today we are honouring a son of Sembabule whose contribution to this district cannot be ignored. Naming this road and the district building after Sam Kahamba Kutesa is our way of appreciating his commitment to improving the lives of our people. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” Nkalubo said.
Religious leaders urged current leaders to emulate Kutesa’s commitment to public service, while several politicians credited him with mentoring young leaders and strengthening leadership in the district.
Lwemiyaga Member of Parliament Emmanuel Rwashande said Kutesa’s mobilisation efforts helped strengthen the ruling National Resistance Movement in Sembabule.
“Honourable Kutesa has remained a pillar of the NRM in Sembabule. His mobilisation, guidance and political experience played a significant role in strengthening the party during the recent elections, and we are grateful for his continued support,” he said.
Former Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa urged leaders in the district to remain united, saying cooperation was essential for sustained development.
Receiving the honour, Kutesa said he was humbled by the recognition and thanked the people of Sembabule for their continued trust over the years.
“I am deeply humbled by this honour. I never expected that one day a road and a public building would bear my name. I thank the people of Sembabule for their trust and support over the years. I encourage all leaders to lead with honesty, transparency and dedication because true leadership is about serving the people, not seeking personal gain,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by ambassadors, Members of Parliament, district officials, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
