JINJA, UGANDA — The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is exploring a strategic partnership with the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness William Nadiope, to promote digital empowerment and innovation among the region’s youth.
During a recent visit to the Kyabazinga’s palace in Jinja, UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo emphasized the urgency of expanding access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) for young people, whom he described as central to Uganda’s development journey.
“The youth are the heartbeat of our nation’s future, and access to ICT is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity,” said Thembo.
He praised the Kyabazinga’s openness to embracing modern digital tools, noting that traditional leaders have a vital role in ensuring rural communities are not left behind in Uganda’s digital transformation.
“When cultural leadership welcomes technology, it opens the door to meaningful progress,” Thembo said, adding that working alongside institutions like the Kyabazinga’s helps bridge gaps in digital access and awareness.
UCC plans to support initiatives in Busoga that focus on connectivity, digital literacy, and youth innovation, aiming to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
Thembo stressed the importance of balancing tradition with technological advancement: “Real development happens when we honour our heritage while building a digitally inclusive future.”
The meeting reflects UCC’s broader efforts to engage traditional institutions as partners in delivering inclusive digital growth across Uganda.
