Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jenifer Bamuturaki and her senior management team failed to appear before Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) on Tuesday, despite being scheduled to respond to concerns raised in the Auditor General’s 2023/2024 report.
The airline officials missed the meeting without offering any explanation to the committee, leaving members visibly frustrated.
Just a week earlier, Bamuturaki had appeared before COSASE and stunned lawmakers by attributing the national carrier’s 2024 financial loss—estimated at UGX 237.855 billion—to high fuel prices, costly crew allowances, and aircraft depreciation.
She also disclosed that Uganda Airlines plans to phase out its Bombardier CRJ 900 fleet, citing increasing difficulties in acquiring spare parts for the jets.
The committee is now considering next steps to compel the airline’s leadership to respond to the financial and operational concerns raised in the report.
