KAMPALA — Victoria University has commenced its 10th graduation ceremony at Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, with approximately 2,500 students expected to receive academic qualifications over two days.

The ceremony, running from October 19 to 20, 2026, is being held under the theme “The Future Is Here” and has attracted graduands, parents, guardians, university officials and invited guests to celebrate the students’ academic achievements.

Jay Sakaria, Vice Chairperson of the University Council, and Meera Ruparelia, a member of the Board of Directors, are representing businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, which owns the institution.

Monday’s programme features graduands from the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students from the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are scheduled to graduate on Tuesday.

The university is awarding certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees as it marks a decade of graduation ceremonies.

Julius Bukyana, the university’s Corporate and Public Relations Manager, said the event highlights the growing influence of technology and artificial intelligence on education and employment.

He said universities must adapt their teaching approaches to prepare graduates for workplaces increasingly shaped by technological advances, while ensuring students acquire practical skills that employers need.

Victoria University has emphasised work-integrated learning, an approach that combines academic instruction with practical experience in professional settings. The institution says the model is intended to equip students with industry-relevant competencies and improve their readiness for employment.

The ceremony follows the university’s recent performance in the National Council for Higher Education’s revised institutional assessment, in which Victoria University scored 87.4 points to rank second among Ugandan universities, behind Makerere University.

Established in 2013, Victoria University is a private higher education institution under the Ruparelia Group. Its main campus is located at Victoria Towers along Jinja Road in Kampala.

The 10th graduation marks a significant milestone for the university as it celebrates its graduates and highlights its focus on practical, technology-oriented education.
