KAMPALA.

A woman, who said to have been with Dr John Bosco Spire Kiggundu ,48 the proprietor of Henrob Hospital ,Zana before he died in a lodge, has revealed the last moments before the medic breathed his last on June 21.

The family got to know about his death a day later (June 22) after hours of searching. The suspect was Eve Mbabazi , who is in her early twenties is currently detained at Kajjansi Police Station to aid Police with investigations .

In her recorded statement at police , Mbabazi admits that she was with the deceased until the time he collapsed. She reveals that she came into contact with Dr Kiggundu in 2018 when she accompanied her sister for a maternity visit at Henrop Hospital.

They had been in touch since then. On the fateful day, she says they agreed to meet at Kajjansi at around 5pm. However, she was allegedly told by the deceased to find him at a guest house in Kajjansi.

She rushed to the place. Inside the room, Mbabazi says she found two bottles of water, a half-empty bottle of juice, and some HIV testing kits. She says all was well until after more than 30 minutes together.

A few moments after , Dr Kiggundu started having breathing difficulties. She said she asked him what the problem was, but the deceased could not answer. She said the shallow breathing continued for some minutes.

She suspected that the medic could be suffering from epilepsy and kept around hoping that he would regain his health, but he didn’t. Afraid, Mbabazi says , she left the room as Dr Kiggundu struggled to breathe.

As Mbabazi left the room, she remembered that she had forgotten her perfume that the doctor had bought for her as a gift. She went back and found the deceased lying calmly on the bed.

She says she left the room , but she called Dr Kiggundu on the phone hoping that he would regain his health. All her calls went unanswered. She learnt later learnt from the news that Dr Kiggundu was found dead in the same guest house.

Despite having information about Dr Kiggundu, Mbabazi says she didn’t inform anyone. The body of Dr Kiggundu was found by attendants at the guest house, who also informed the police.

Investigations and CCTV cameras pointed at the suspect as the last person to be with the deceased. The detectives established that the Mbabazi started communicating with the deceased in May 2025, through direct phone calls and WhatsApp, a messaging social media platform.

“In three months, the deceased and the woman had spoken 17 times and the rest of the communication was through WhatsApp,” a source at Kajjansi Police said.

The retrieved CCTV footage from the lodge showed that at around 05:20pm, the deceased was captured entering the guest house, spoke to the receptionist, who handed over a key for a room. He had two bottles- one with water and the other with juice.

The footage shows that at around 05:45pm, a woman(Mbabazi ) , dressed in a pair of trousers with white stripes, a blouse, a black jacket and with a cross bag, accessed the room where the deceased’s body was later found.

Seven minutes later, the CCTV footage shows Mbabazi coming out of the room. She then returns to the room and again moves out. The detectives relied on the CCTV footage and phone data to trace Mbabazi . Relatives of the deceased later said the post-mortem showed that he died of heart-related challenges.

But the police are continuing with their investigations to establish whether or not it is a case of homicide. A postmortem report generated by pathologists from Mulago Hospital indicated that he died of heart failure .
