ENTEBBE: Uganda Airlines’ executive leadership has presented its strategic growth plans to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, outlining ambitions to expand international operations, introduce domestic flights and strengthen the airline’s internal capacity.
The briefing took place at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The Uganda Airlines team was led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake and included Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio, and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim.
According to the Defence Press Unit, the meeting focused on the national carrier’s strategy to improve corporate governance, stabilise its operations and position the airline for long-term commercial growth.
The airline’s leadership outlined plans to improve the utilisation and performance of its existing fleet while expanding routes from Entebbe to destinations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and key regional hubs across Africa.

Uganda Airlines is also considering the introduction of domestic air services to respond to growing internal travel needs.
The airline further plans to reduce operational costs by strengthening its internal capacity in areas such as aircraft maintenance and ground handling.
Management said efforts are underway to progressively bring some of these services in-house while investing in the training and development of Ugandan aviation professionals.
The leadership team said continued support from Government and other stakeholders would be important in implementing the airline’s growth strategy and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
Gen. Kainerugaba commended the Uganda Airlines leadership for the progress made and pledged his support to the national carrier’s plans.
He said a strong national airline is important in supporting Uganda’s trade, regional integration and broader economic development objectives.
The meeting comes as Uganda Airlines undergoes structural and leadership changes aimed at strengthening governance and improving the airline’s commercial and operational performance.
