MTN Uganda Crowned Sustainability and Reporting Champion at 2025 FiRe Awards

MTN Uganda has cemented its position as a trailblazer in corporate accountability and sustainability after being named the Gold Winner for Excellence in Integrated Reporting at the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards.

The recognition, announced at the 15th edition of the awards in Kampala, places the telecommunications giant at the forefront of transparent, purpose-driven business leadership in Uganda. The awards, jointly organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE), celebrate companies that demonstrate exceptional financial prudence, sustainability action and stakeholder communication.

Beyond the coveted gold accolade, MTN Uganda also walked away with the Sustainability Reporting Award, the Consumer & Industrial Products Financial Reporting Award, and a Certificate of Recognition in the Listed Entity Category, a strong demonstration of its dual commitment to commercial success and national development priorities.

Accepting the accolades, MTN Uganda’s Senior Manager for Investor Relations, Amanda Bbosa Rabwoni, emphasized the company’s philosophy on accountability.

“For us, transparency is not a compliance checkbox, it is a responsibility to our customers, shareholders and communities. These awards validate our mission to deliver shared value and sustainable growth,” she said.

This year’s FiRe Awards, themed Sustainability Practices and Reporting in Uncertain Global Times, also spotlighted how businesses are responding to environmental shifts, market volatility, and rising public demand for ethical corporate leadership.

CMA Director of Market Supervision, Denis Kizito, noted that integrated reporting is no longer a luxury but a necessity for investor confidence and national economic transformation. Meanwhile, USE Chief Executive Paul Bwiso described the awards as a catalyst for strengthening corporate governance across Uganda’s capital market.

Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge, whose sustainability-centred leadership continues to reshape corporate expectations in Uganda, has repeatedly underscored that national development and business growth must advance together.

“Real success is measured not just in revenue, but in who we empower, what we protect, and the future we enable,” she stated in earlier remarks reflected in the company’s sustainability narrative.

Industry analysts say MTN’s win is more than a corporate milestone, it signals a shift in Uganda’s business landscape, where environmental stewardship, social impact and governance rigour are quickly becoming the true barometers of brand leadership and long-term market trust.

As Uganda’s corporate sector takes deeper strides into ESG-driven reporting, MTN Uganda’s latest triumph raises the benchmark, challenges industry peers and reinforces a promising direction for more transparent and responsible business practices nationwide.
