BUSHENYI. President Museveni has paid glowing tribute to the late Hajjat Azida Nanteza, the mother of businessman Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, describing her as a devoted matriarch who raised her children with strong values and a commitment to community service.
In a message delivered by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa during the burial ceremony in Ishaka, Bushenyi, the President said Hajjat Azida’s life should be celebrated for the significant positive impact she had on her family and the wider community.
President Museveni acknowledged the grief felt by the family but urged them to draw strength from the many lives she touched.
He further encouraged the Basajjabalaba family to honour her memory by upholding the virtues she instilled in them.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, delivering his own eulogy, noted that although many people in greater Bushenyi may not have known Hajjat Azida personally, her influence is evident through her children’s contributions to the region and the country.
He praised the Basajjabalaba family—particularly Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, Chairman of the NRM Entrepreneurs League—for their investments in education, health, and other essential services.
“Through investments in schools, universities, hospitals, and other social services, the family has significantly boosted the economy of greater Bushenyi and provided essential services to thousands of Ugandans,” Tayebwa said.
He expressed confidence that her children will continue her legacy of hard work, generosity, and commitment to national development.
Tayebwa concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of Hajjat Azida Nanteza’s soul and offering comfort to her family during this difficult moment.
