Malawi Airlines Unveils New Direct Route Linking Entebbe and Lilongwe

Malawi Airlines will introduce direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and Lilongwe’s Kamuzu International Airport starting 15 December 2025, a move expected to boost regional connectivity across Eastern and Southern Africa.

It operate four times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays using a Boeing 737-700 aircraft. According to the airline, flights from Lilongwe will depart at 4:20pm and arrive in Entebbe at 7:45pm. The return flight will leave Entebbe at 6:15am, touching down in Lilongwe at 7:40am.

Malawi Airlines says the route is designed to make travel between the two countries faster and more convenient, eliminating the need for long layovers through third country hubs. Through Lilongwe, passengers will also be able to connect easily to Johannesburg, Harare, Lusaka and other key regional destinations.

The airline, which is jointly owned by the Government of Malawi and Ethiopian Airlines, describes the new route as part of its wider plan to expand its regional footprint and support growing demand for business and leisure travel in the region.

With bookings already open through its website, mobile app, sales offices and authorised agents including its Kampala office at Park Royal Mall, the carrier expects strong uptake from travellers seeking shorter, more direct travel options between Uganda and Malawi.

The launch is anticipated to stimulate trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries while strengthening Entebbe’s role as a key regional aviation gateway.
