NAMAYINGO.Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni who is seeking reelection to extend his rule beyond 40 years has launched a scathing attack on fellow presidential candidates ,saying they have nothing to show apart from “running around.”
“When people ask why you are supporting NRM, tell them NRM has put bricks on the house called Uganda. People like Kyagulanyi have no proof of what they have done for Uganda,” Museveni said.
“If they come here, you can ask them,Kyagulanyi, what have you don’t for Uganda apart from running around? The Mugisha Muntu and Nandala Mafabi, what have they done for Uganda.”
Museveni made the verbal attack on Wednesday while addressing a rally at Namayingo Primary School Grounds in Namayingo District.
Museveni said the ruling party has done many things for Uganda which he said can be seen even by the blind.
“NRM has done many things most of which can be easily seen. If we support NRM, don’t get jealousy of us, we are standing on the truth with evidence and not deceiving.”
He mentioned peace as the springboard of the development that Uganda achieved in the last 40 years.
Museveni reminded the people of Namayingo about the Lakwena insurgency and the war by Force Obote Back Again(FOBA) that he said caused insecurity in the area.
He was however quick to point that all that is now history.
Museveni also mentioned tarmacking of several roads including the Musita – Mayunge- Namayingo- Majanji which he said was a big success for the NRM.
He reminisced the days of fighting Amin.
“That road was once a battlefield. We fought Amin’s soldiers near Musiita. There is a place where I tried to deceive Amin’s soldiers and when they stopped us, I had crammed in my head, the name Kaluuba which also had a lepers’ hospital. When soldiers stopped us, I said I am going to Kaluuba and they asked that I come out of the car. Immediately my neighbour, Kaheru shot one of them and started crying. I put a bullet in him and the whole group fled,” Museveni said.
He said what was previously warzone is now a “wonderful” road.
Museveni said Namayingo has 84 government primary schools in the 50 parishes , with 31 hosting at least one government primary schools one 19 parishes don’t have any.
He however blamed this on lack of prioritization by leaders that allowed some parishes have more than one government primary school yet others didn’t have any.
On government secondary schools, he said the district has 11 sub counties, with six hosting at least one school while five sub-counties are still lacking.
He reaffirmed government ‘s policy to have a primary school in each parish and a secondary school in every sub-county.
In the health sector, Museveni said out of Namayingo’s 11 sub counties, one has a health centre IV and eight have health centre IIIs, with only two sub-counties not having any health facility.
“Our plan is to upgrade Mutumba health centre III in Namayingo South Constituency to a health centre IV, Sigulu health centre III in Bukooli Islands Constituency to a health centre IV, Lugala health centre II in Banda Sub-County to a health centre III and Mulombi health centre II in Mutumba Sub-County to a health centre III,” Museveni said.
Despite the progress in development, Museveni said it is high time the people of Namayingo listened to his wealth creation message.
“For many years, other political parties would talk about development in a vague way. You cant confuse me with roads and electricity. In the 1960s, I was a young person like you and got my first salary as temporary teacher as waited to go to university. I went very far inside the country to Rwakitura which was bush with no road, electricity or schools but with good pasture for cows. I was looking for wealth. I knew there was no development in the area but there was potential for wealth. Cows don’t eat tarmac or warm themselves on electricity but want pasture,” Museveni said.
He noted that in Rwakitura which was not developed by then, he started rearing dairy cattle and this way, he was able to create wealth for himself but also help others in the cattle corridor.
However, according to Museveni, while this wealth creation message has been preached by the NRM for many years, a number of people have refused to take it serious.
“The problem we have is that we have many preachers. We say this and other preachers say something different and our people listen to them.”
Museveni said wealth creation is the way to go, asking locals to make use of the Parish Development Model funds to get out of poverty.
