
Troops from the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali National Army (SNA) have been urged to enhance unity and operational coordination to more effectively counter Al-Shabaab militants.
The appeal was made by the District Commissioner of Afgoye, Mr. Nur Osman, during a visit to Afgoye Barracks, where he stressed that sustained cooperation between international partners and Somali security forces is essential for lasting peace and stability in the region.
Addressing the gathering, UPDF Battle Group 46 Commander, Colonel Saul Nabimanya, reaffirmed AUSSOM’s commitment to working closely with the SNA in joint security operations. He noted that coordinated efforts and a unified approach would significantly improve security and speed up the elimination of Al-Shabaab elements across areas of responsibility.
The Afgoye Mobile Police Commander, Colonel Nuur Laile, praised AUSSOM and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for their continued contribution to maintaining security in Mogadishu and its environs.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the SNA 25th Battalion, Colonel Mustaf Omer, commended AUSSOM for its role in stabilising Somalia and supporting the development of national security institutions.
The engagement brought together senior UPDF officers, local community leaders, and members of the Somali security forces, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening security and peace in the region.
