The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has discontinued criminal proceedings against Kampala-based socialite Nasser Nduhukire, commonly known as Don Nasser, bringing to an end a high-profile case that had been before the International Crimes Division of the High Court.
Don Nasser had been charged in 2024 with aggravated trafficking and defilement over allegations involving a minor. However, during a court session presided over by Justice Andrew Bashaija, the prosecution presented a formal withdrawal letter dated February 4, 2026, signed by DPP Lino Anguzu.
In the communication to court, the DPP stated that the state would no longer continue with the prosecution of the case. No detailed reasons were provided for the decision.
A state attorney informed the court that instructions had been received to formally withdraw the charges, effectively halting the proceedings.
The accusations previously brought before court alleged that Don Nasser transported a 16-year-old girl from Tagore Apartments in Kamwokya, along Acacia Avenue in Kampala, and accommodated her at his residence in Kito Zone, Kira Division. Prosecutors had claimed the minor was kept there for four days in May 2024 for purposes of sexual exploitation.
The case drew considerable public interest due to the gravity of the offences and the profile of the accused. The charges were filed under Uganda’s laws addressing human trafficking and sexual offences.
Following the withdrawal of the case, Justice Bashaija ordered that the accused be formally discharged. The court also directed that the Shs3 million bail deposit previously paid by Don Nasser be refunded.
With the charges withdrawn, the case has officially concluded, although the DPP’s office did not indicate whether the matter could be reopened if new evidence were to arise in the future.
