Uganda to establish first bone marrow transplant center.

Uganda officially launched a nationwide resource mobilization drive to establish the Uganda’s first Bone Marrow Transplant Centre at the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), Entebbe road.

Minister of health Jane Ruth Aceng launched the initiative accompanied by health officials and staff of JCRC recently.

According to the minister Aceng the initiative aims to bring lifesaving treatment home for patients battling sickle cell disease, leukemia, lymphoma, and other serious blood disorders.

“For decades, families have been forced to seek bone marrow transplant treatment abroad at overwhelming costs. This centre will change that reducing financial burden, strengthening national healthcare capacity, and giving thousands of Ugandans a second chance at life,” minister said in statement issued by JCRC.

She said that “This moment marked unity behind a lifesaving cause, a commitment to hope, equity, and the future of healthcare in Uganda. And this is only the beginning,”. ends
