The stage is set for thrilling action as the draw for the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 was conducted on Tuesday morning at the FUFA Complex in Mengo. The draw, which was aired live on FUFA TV, was overseen by former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and five-time tournament winner Ibrahim Mugisha.
Defending champions Kitara FC, who clinched last season’s title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over NEC FC, will face Big League side Gaddafi FC in an away encounter.
Record winners KCCA FC are set to host Rwenzori Lions, a team that has emerged as a surprise package from the Kitara region. Meanwhile, nine-time champions SC Villa, along with reigning StarTimes Uganda Premier League titleholders, will travel to face Lugazi FC in a highly anticipated clash.
Exciting Fixtures Ahead
Current StarTimes Uganda Premier League table leaders and three-time Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Vipers SC will welcome FUFA Big League leaders Blacks Power FC. Similarly, three-time champions URA FC will take on Mbale-based Kataka FC in another intriguing fixture.
2022 winners BUL FC will host West Nile Region’s Total FC, while Maroons FC will go head-to-head with Police FC in what promises to be a heated military derby. Rounding off the fixtures, Big League outfit Kaaro Karungi will battle Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC.
Match Schedule and Tournament Rules
According to FUFA Competitions Director Hajat Aisha Nalule, the Round of 16 matches will be played between Monday, March 17, and Friday, March 21, 2025. All fixtures will be single-leg ties.
“As per the Stanbic Uganda Cup Rules, Article 19, this stage consists of 16 teams that advanced from the previous round. FUFA conducts a draw to determine matchups. The team that scores the most goals within regulation time progresses. In case of a draw, the winner will be decided through a penalty shootout,” Nalule stated.
With the competition heating up, fans can expect thrilling encounters as teams battle for a spot in the quarterfinals of Uganda’s most prestigious knockout tournament.
