Police name suspect, victims of Kampala daycare centre killing

KAMPALA.

Police have named four toddlers who were killed at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre located in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala City, on Thursday.

The victims were allegedly stabbed by 39‑year‑old Christopher Okello Onyum, who stormed the facility with a knife under unclear circumstances.

Police identified the victims as two-year-old Eteku Gideon, Kaise Alungat, Ignatius Sserwange, and three-year-old Ryan Odeke.

Security team headed by Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, rushed to the scene and called for calm among the public.

Police Spokesperson, Mr Kituuma Rusoke, said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

“The Uganda Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the affected families and assures the public that all efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge,” Mr Kituuma said.
