Uganda’s national carrier, Uganda Airlines, has returned one of its long-haul aircraft—an Airbus A330-800neo (registration 5X-NIL)—to active service following several weeks of grounding due to a technical fault.
The aircraft had been taken out of operation in mid-February after routine maintenance checks revealed cracks in some of its turbine blades. This prompted detailed inspections and repair work by engineers to ensure it met all safety and operational standards.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft is now fully cleared and has resumed flights, with its first journey back taking place on April 17, 2026, on a route to Dubai.
According to the airline, the return of the aircraft is expected to ease pressure on its international schedule, which had been disrupted during the repair period.
To maintain operations while 5X-NIL was grounded, Uganda Airlines temporarily leased a Boeing 787-8 from Ethiopian Airlines to support its long-haul routes.
The airline expressed appreciation to passengers and partners for their patience, noting that all necessary safety procedures were thoroughly completed before the aircraft was cleared to fly again.
