KAMPALA.President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today hosted a luncheon in honour of the outgoing cabinet at State House, Entebbe.
During the final cabinet meeting ahead of his swearing- in ceremony on May 12 to extend his rule beyond 40 years , Mr Museveni commended members for their service and contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
A central theme of the cabinet discussion was Uganda’s journey toward middle-income status. Throughout this ending term, the President and his “fishermen cabinet” pushed for industrialization and the Parish Development Model (PDM) to lift the 39 per cent of households still outside the money economy.
“We have laid the foundation,” Mr Museveni told the outgoing ministers.
While the World Bank and the government have previously sparred over the exact timing of reaching the $1,036 per capita income threshold, Mr Museveni remained bullish, crediting the country’s stability and nascent oil sector for driving growth. He noted that the “fishermen” had successfully maintained focus on local production despite global economic shocks.
He also praised the cabinet for its historic role in steering the country to middle-income status, noting that the milestone reflects collective effort, discipline, and commitment.
The President also acknowledged the team’s role in the recent electoral process, describing the outcome as a collective achievement, while expressing confidence in continued economic growth in the coming term.
On the other hand, President Museveni emphasised the need for strong ethical leadership, calling for renewed commitment to integrity, accountability, and patriotism in public service.
