The Uganda Prisons Service has promoted 219 officers across the North Western Region, with leaders urging the newly elevated personnel to uphold discipline, professionalism, and commitment in their duties
The Assistant Commissioner of Prisons and Regional Prisons Commander (RPC) for the North Western Region, Leni Ndori, congratulated the officers during a pipping and chevron ceremony where junior staff from Arua Main and Arua Women Prisons were officially awarded their new ranks.
“Promotions are a sign of trust and recognition of good performance. They boost morale, motivate officers to work harder, and improve service delivery by placing capable officers in positions of responsibility,” Ndori said.
The distribution of promotions reflected a broad but uneven spread across stations. Adjumani recorded the highest number with 40 officers promoted, followed by Ragem with 32 and Arua Main with 29. Nebbi registered 23 promotions, while Paidha had 19.
Some stations saw minimal changes, including Clerk DPC NBI with one promotion, while both the Regional Office and Moyo registered five promotions each.
In terms of rank progression, the majority of officers moved within the lower ranks. A total of 72 officers were promoted from Warder/Wardress to Lance Corporal, marking the largest share. Another 58 officers advanced to the rank of Sergeant, while 31 were promoted to Corporal.
Fewer officers progressed into higher junior leadership roles. Seven officers were elevated from Principal Officer II (PO II) to Principal Officer I (PO I), while nine advanced from Chief Warder III (CH III) to Chief Warder II (CH II).
Ndori emphasized that promotions come with increased responsibility, calling on officers to maintain integrity and uphold the core values of the Uganda Prisons Service.
“Promotion is not just a reward it is a call to greater responsibility, discipline, and accountability,” he noted.
The promotion exercise is ongoing and will extend to other prisons across the region to ensure all promoted officers are formally recognized.
