
The Vision Group Board of Directors has appointed Sidney Miria Babanga ,a veteran journalist has been appointed as new Editor-in-Chief of the New Vision Group .
He replaces Barbara Kaija, who has served the company for over 30 years. Kaija will officially leave the 3rd Street located media outlet at the end of this June
Kaija’s retirement was announced by Vision Group Managing Director, Mr Don Wanyama, in a communication to company employees on Thursday (May 7).
Mr Wanyama said the board of directors has appointed Babanga to the position “for seamless transition and to ensure continuity”.
Babanga currently serves as the Content Manager for Special Projects.
He has been at Vision Group for 26 years, having joined in the company in 2000 as a freelance journalist.
He then served as a sub-editor, Sunday Magazine Editor, Deputy Regional News Editor, Regional News Editor and Supplements Editor before assuming his current role.
“As Editor-in-Chief, Sidney will provide overall editorial leadership, strategic direction and quality control for all content across Vision Group’s media platforms (newspaper, TV, radio and digital),” said Wanyama.
“Working with the team, he is expected to drive innovation, audience engagement, oversee cross-platform integration and ensure that we remain competitive, relevant and trusted.”
Wanyama, on behalf of the board and management, congratulated Babanga on his promotion.
“I pray that we offer him all the support needed to successfully execute his new assignment,” he urged the staff.
“I also immensely appreciate Mrs Barbara Kaija for her selfless service to the Vision Group. We shall celebrate her appropriately in the coming days.”
Babanga becomes the third editor -in -chief since New Vision was formed in 1986. Kaija replaced the founding editor in chief William Pike who served as the company Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief from 1986 to 2007.
