Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa becomes new apostolic nuncio to Uganda

ROME. Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa, Titular Archbishop of Rubicon, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda.

He replaces Archbishop Luigi Bianco, who served as the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda since 2019.

Bianco was reassigned by the Pope in May 2025 to serve as the Nuncio to Slovenia and Apostolic Delegate to Kosovo.

“Until his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, Rev Grysa has been Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar, Seychelles and the Republic of Mauritius, and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion,” reads part of the statement from Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou who has been overseeing the affairs of the affairs of the Nunciature in Uganda ever since Archbishop Bianco was reassigned last year.

Born on October 16, 1970 in Poznán (Poland), he was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Poznán on 25th May 1995.

Rev Grysa has a doctorate in Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 2001. Having served in different Pontifical Representations – Russian Federation, India, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, UN Permanent Mission (New York), Israel and Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem and Palestine, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion on 27 September 2022.

Subsequently he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Seychelles on February 9, 2023 and then to the Republic of Mauritius on March 21, 2023.

“The new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda apart from Polish knows Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian,” Rev. Fr Kouwonou added in a Thursday statement.
