President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met a delegation from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention led by Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya at State House Entebbe to discuss the regional Ebola situation and measures aimed at protecting Uganda from potential outbreaks.
According to the President, the delegation briefed him on the ongoing regional Ebola surveillance and preparedness efforts being coordinated across Africa to ensure countries remain vigilant and ready to respond swiftly to any threat.
During the meeting, the Africa CDC delegation proposed the establishment of a continental Incident Management Support Team for Ebola in Kampala. The proposed team would strengthen regional coordination, monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms in the fight against Ebola and other emerging public health threats.
President Museveni welcomed the proposal and pledged Uganda’s support toward the initiative, noting that enhanced cooperation among African countries is critical in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
The President also emphasized that with proper attention, preparedness, and coordinated response systems, Ebola remains manageable.
Uganda has previously been recognized for its strong public health response systems and experience in managing Ebola outbreaks through surveillance, community sensitization, rapid response teams, and collaboration with international health agencies.
