Shock as Police intercept men with slaughtered dogs

MITYANA.Police in Mityana District have rescued 48 dogs and arrested three men in an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal dog holding facilities in Kansuleti, Kasimbi, and Bamunanika in Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality.

The sites had become a major public concern due to the brutal treatment of the animals, some of which had broken limbs, severed tails, signs of malnourishment, and no vaccination records, raising fears of disease and public danger in case of escape. “We cannot allow such cruel and illegal practices to endanger both animals and the community,” said SSP L. Kigozi, PRO Wamala Region.

The dogs have been handed over to Animal Lifeline Uganda, a registered NGO with a holding facility in Kateete Cell, Kireku Ward, where they will be vaccinated and their breeding controlled in coordination with the District Veterinary Officer before being put up for public adoption. The three suspects are to be charged in court with cruelty to animals and any additional offences as advised by the Resident State Attorney. Police have urged all genuine animal welfare actors to follow proper legal procedures before engaging in the care and management of stray animals in communities.
