Voting is underway in Kalangala District as residents head to the polls to elect their new District Woman Member of Parliament.
According to the Electoral Commission’s Head of Public Relations and Spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, Biometric Voter Verification Machines have been deployed at all polling stations to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
Mucunguzi said every voter is being verified using the biometric system before receiving a ballot paper. The exercise is taking place across 115 polling stations spread over Kalangala’s 84 islands.
The Electoral Commission has urged voters to remain peaceful and follow electoral guidelines throughout the voting process as officials continue to monitor the exercise.
Results are expected to be announced after the completion of vote counting and tallying.
