MPIGI — State Minister for Fisheries Robert Migadde Ndugwa has urged Ugandan fish farmers and investors to embrace modern aquaculture technologies to increase production and improve yields.

Migadde made the call during a visit to Masheda Aquaculture Farm along Mityana Road in Buyala Village, Muduuma Sub-county, Mpigi District, where he inspected the farm’s fish production activities alongside officials from the fisheries department.

The minister commended Masheda Aquaculture Farm for adopting modern fish farming technologies, saying such innovations could help transform aquaculture into a more profitable business.

He said the government would support the farm in improving the quality of fish fingerlings and feeds to help it meet international standards.

“We know there is a challenge of poor-quality fish fingerlings and feeds, but government is working around the clock to address it,” Migadde said.

He also encouraged both local and foreign investors to put more money into aquaculture, saying increased fish farming would help reduce pressure on Uganda’s lakes and allow natural fish stocks to recover.

Meanwhile, MAAIF Commissioner for Fisheries Aciro Daisy praised Masheda Aquaculture Farm for contributing to the growth of fish farming in Uganda.

“I am pleased with what I have seen here, and we will support the massive production of fish,” Aciro said.

She urged the farm’s management to consider establishing branches in other parts of the country to expand access to modern aquaculture technologies and increase fish production.
