KAMPALA.The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has called on Muslims across the country to hold a national prayer for rain on Friday, September 4, 2026, following prolonged dry conditions reported in different parts of Uganda.
The special prayer, known as Salatul-Istisqa, will be conducted simultaneously in mosques across the country at 1:40 p.m. The directive was contained in a September 2, 2026 circular issued by the UMSC Department of Religious Affairs and signed by Sheikh Ssali Imran Abdunoor, the Secretary for Religious Affairs.
Sheikh Ssali said the prayer has been organised to seek Allah’s mercy and blessings as the country experiences prolonged dry conditions.
“Following the prolonged dry conditions being experienced in different parts of the country, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has organized a National Prayer for Rain (Salatul-Istisqa), seeking the mercy, forgiveness and blessings of Almighty Allah,” he said.
He directed all Regional Assistants to the Mufti, District Kadhis, County Sheikhs and Imams to mobilise Muslims in their respective areas and ensure that the prayer is conducted as planned. “The National Prayer for Rain will be conducted in all mosques across Uganda simultaneously,” Sheikh Ssali said.
The Muslim leadership is also encouraging the faithful to use the occasion for repentance, supplication, charity and other good deeds while praying for rainfall.
“Muslims are encouraged to sincerely turn to Almighty Allah through Istighfar, repentance, Dua, charity and good deeds, seeking His mercy and beneficial rainfall for our country,” he said.Sheikh Ssali further called on Muslim leaders to ensure that communities are adequately prepared for the prayer.
“All Regional Assistants to the Mufti and District Kadhis are informed to take the lead in mobilizing Muslims in their respective areas and ensuring that all Imams, County Sheikhs and mosque leaders are informed and adequately prepared to organize and lead the prayer,” he said.
The circular concludes with a prayer for Uganda, asking Almighty Allah to accept the supplications of Muslims, forgive their shortcomings and bless the country with abundant rainfall. “May Almighty Allah accept our prayers and supplications, forgive our shortcomings, and bless Uganda with abundant and beneficial rainfall,” Sheikh Ssali said.The call comes amid continuing concerns over dry conditions affecting communities and agricultural activities in many parts of the country.
