Masaka Bishop asks Catholics to lead fight against corruption

The Masaka Diocesan Bishop Serverus Jjumba has called upon Christian professionals in various fields not to discern the responsibility of correcting the wrong deeds by their colleagues in higher offices, majorly corruption which has crippled service delivery .


Addressing Catholic professionals from Masaka Diocese at Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral, Kitovu in Masaka City at the reunion of their association which doubles as a Labour Day celebrations in a diocese, Bishop Jjumba said that in various fields there are many challenges like corruption , unfortunately many people just ignore them.


“Be a catholic in your actions wherever you’re, what would chase and force you to give up let it instead be the inspiration to confront such vices ,” he said


He further appreciated those who have expressed interest in taking up political offices in the forthcoming general elections and asked them to reflect the true values of Christians .


Bishop Jjumba condemned infighting among workers in same organisations and advised them to cooperate and ensure quality service delivery.


“Some sit on their fellows due to fear of being replaced by those they have promoted ,but there is an automatic disqualification of age. Those with a responsibility of making promotions do it based on merit and network; that’s how you will be able to grow professionally.” the prelate advised


Rev. Fr. Michael Kamulegeya, the chaplain of the Association of Catholic Professions (ASSOCAP) in the diocese hailed the bishop for this idea that is awaking the spirit of working together to develop the diocese.


The ASSOCAP chairperson Mr John Paul Kagombe Mugwanya hinted on several achievements they’ve registered in the past three years of their existence including scores of health camps led by health workers to sensitize masses about healthy living, sourcing scholarships for underprivileged children, and agricultural clinics to equip communities with new better farming practices .


“We can easily coordinate to serve our people as you instructed us and we hope to spearhead more other initiatives for a prosperous society,” he said


Mr Gyaviira Lubowa Ssebina, an accountant at Makerere University and aspirant for Nyendo-Mukungwe parliamentary seat urged the professionals and Christians to invest in their children to bring up more responsible people who will further their legacies.


ASSOCAP was founded to promote core catholic values, networking among catholic professionals, and to promote evangelization through community service.
