Hundreds Turn Out for 2025 Tusimba Family Run Celebrating Faith, Family, and Wellness

Kampala, Uganda | May 11, 2025 – Hundreds of participants turned up early Sunday morning for the third edition of the Tusimba Family Run, an annual event organized by The Kelim Foundation to promote unity, healthy living, and spiritual growth within families.

The 2025 event kicked off with a powerful spiritual start, as attendees took part in repentance sessions and a heartfelt Mass led by Fr. Martin Onyango. Afterward, runners gathered for a warm-up session before being officially flagged off.

Participants competed in various categories, including the 10km, 5km, and Kids Fun Run, with proceeds going towards Tusimba’s ongoing community development programs. Themed “Promoting Family Unity and Healthy Living,” this year’s event emphasized the importance of physical well-being and family togetherness.

A Community United in Motion

The run brought together people of all ages and backgrounds—from toddlers in strollers to senior citizens like Papa Augustine Okurut Omare, who joyfully joined the race. It was a true celebration of generational bonding.

According to Mr. Adrine Munyambabazi, the event’s chairperson, the inspiration behind the Tusimba Family Run is rooted in the teachings of St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei.

“St. Josemaría believed the family is the cornerstone of a holy and balanced life,” Munyambabazi explained. “He taught that daily work and love within the family reflect God’s purpose for humanity.”

From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Tradition

Mrs. Monica Luyimbazi, a co-organizer, reflected on the journey of the run.

“The idea for the Tusimba Run was born when we needed to construct a perimeter wall after acquiring property. Though the first run was envisioned in 2013, it wasn’t until 2022 that we held our first edition,” she said. “Since then, the response has been amazing, and the event has grown into something deeply meaningful.”

Nurturing the Future of Hospitality

The Tusimba grounds are also home to the Pearl Crest School of Hospitality and Training Centre, which offers recognized Certificate and Diploma programs. The institution continues to play a critical role in shaping Uganda’s hospitality workforce.

The organizing committee extended sincere thanks to all partners, families, and sponsors who made the event possible. These include:

“Whether spiritually, professionally, or culturally, life requires rhythm, resilience, and purpose. Family-centered events like this encourage us to pursue holistic growth and live with intention.”

The event concluded with a shared meal, reinforcing the values of fellowship, gratitude, and spiritual reflection that define the Tusimba Family Run
