Panic as machete-wielding gang raid village in Mityana , kill one , three injured

A wave of terror swept through Namaseenene Village ,Bulera Sub County , Mityana District on Friday morning , leaving three people injured and traumatised.
The attackers first raided the home of Zefania Matongo at 1am , cut him with machetes together with his wife Specioza Mukankusi and a shamba boy Erisa Kiggundu .They made off with three mobile phones and Shs200,000 cash .

Mutetema Police Station who rushed to the scene and took the injured to Bulera Health Centre III to received first aid before being transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital
Moments after severely injuring the trio, the gang attacked Sam Kwizerimaana Baligondoza about 500 metres away and killed him on spot . The victim was reportedly on his way back home.
According to Mr Racheal Kawala , the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson , Baligondoza died of suffocation after the attackers tied both his mouth and noise using a piece of cloth.
“ But good enough our detectives have arrested three suspects who are in custody at Mityana Central Police Station and we hope they will share more information about their heinous acts in the area ,” she said
She said the suspects were arrested during a police operation in neigbouring Kassanda District .
Lastest attacks are reminiscent of similar attacks in the same district and neigbouring Kassanda District last year . On the night of October 12,2024 a wave of terror swept through Myanzi Sub County in Kassanda District and Mityana Municipality , leaving three people injured and traumatised. Among the victims was Eric Ssonko, Kabaka’s deputy chief in Myanzi Sub County. The attackers, estimated to be around seven, aged between 19 and 22, and armed with machetes, arrived at the village on three boda bodas. They targeted Ssonko’s home, where his family runs Dreams Primary School, and made off with school fees collected from parents. In a similar incident during the same night , the family of Gabriel Kakooza in Mityana Municipality was also attacked by the same gang. They broke into their home , demanded money, and destroyed household items.


Other similar incidents in 2024 include attacks on Mityana Municipality Mayor Faustine Mukambwe’s home, where thugs stole Shs900,000 and a mobile phone, Mityana Deputy Resident Commissioner Prossy Mwanjuzi’s home, where her vehicle was torched, and Nswanjere Junior Seminary in Mpigi District, where valuables were stolen and three people injured.
