KAMPALA.
The government has finally gazetted the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) ,a political party associated with jailed veteran politician Dr Kizza Besigye .
Dr Besigye’s group currently led by Kampala City Mayor Erias Lukwago defected from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) after disagreements over funds which came into the party allegedly from President Museveni .
In the May 16 edition of the Uganda Gazette ,the Electoral Commission acknowledged that PFF’s application of registration was approved on May 13.
“Notice is hereby given by the Electoral Commission in accordance with Section 6 (4) of the Political Parties and Organisations Act Cap. 178 of application for registration by People’s Front for Freedom Party with the following particulars,” the notice reads in part
The particulars of PFF which are recognized by EC include its address on Plot-6 Katonga Road P.O.Box 29628 ,Kampala, symbol Mobile Phone handset , colours White with stripe of Royal Blue ,slogan Freedom for all –All for freedom .
“Any person who has grounds opposing this application should do so within 14 days from the date of this Gazette notice by lodging an objection to the Electoral Commission” the notice signed by EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi reads in part
Early this month , the EC spokesperson Mr Julious Mucunguzi dismissed reports by PFF promoters that the pressure group had already been fully registered .
“I can confirm that when the application is complete, the next step in the law is publishing the application in the Gazette, and this has to take place within 30 days upon receiving a complete application.” He said
The process of registering a new political party, which seems easy, has, however, taken longer than expected, which the EC blamed on the gaps that were identified in the first batch of signatures that promoters of PFF submitted to the EC.
