Uganda Showcases Tea Industry Potential at Africa Trade Consortium Event

The High Commission of Uganda in Abuja recently participated in the Africa Trade Consortium’s 2025 “Tea Break Édition” event, held under the theme “Unlocking Africa’s Tea Industry Potential.” The event aimed to promote intra-African cooperation and showcase the continent’s tea industry potential under the AfCFTA framework.

Uganda’s Tea Industry Highlighted
Ambassador Philip Odida, Chargé d’Affaires, and Dr. Sam Omara, Minister-Counsellor, represented Uganda at the high-level engagement. Ambassador Odida delivered a keynote presentation, highlighting Uganda’s tea sector as a top foreign exchange earner and a model for sustainable agricultural practice and regional trade.

Call for Collaboration
Ambassador Odida emphasized the importance of inter-African collaboration, calling for increased partnerships, joint ventures, and knowledge exchange to unlock the full potential of Africa’s tea industry. He invited participants to experience Uganda’s unique tea flavors and qualities, expressing eagerness to explore opportunities for boosting intra-African tea trade and promoting tea globally.

Promoting Sustainable Growth
The Ugandan High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to fostering bilateral and multilateral cooperation in trade and investment, and championing African-led initiatives that promote sustainable growth and regional integration. The event provided a platform for participants to explore new markets, forge strategic partnerships, and discuss policy frameworks to enhance Africa’s presence in the global tea trade.
