.Over 30 female students of St. Charles Lwanga Technical Institute-Butende in Masaka City have survived death after fire gutted their dormitory .
The Tuesday afternoon inferno left property worth millions of shillings in ashes .
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze could have been caused by an electrical short circuit after a telephone that was left charging in the dormitory blown up in flames leading to a fire outbreak.

“ The incident happened just a minutes when the institute administration was about to conduct a search in the ill-fated dormitory following reports that that some girls were hiding phones in their beds ,which is an illegal act .

So, it is said that one of the phones that was charging , exploded thus causing fire ,” a female student ,who preferred to remain anonymous disclosed
Mr Achilles Mawanda, the principal of the institute said almost all students’ personal effects went up in flames .
He asked police to thoroughly investigate the incident and help them know what exactly caused the fire .
