The Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has returned home after spending a month in Germany where he went for a medical review.
At Entebbe International airport on Friday morning , the Kabaka was received by the kingdom’s first deputy premier, Dr Twaha Kawaase, alongside other top officials from the kingdom.
The Kabaka travelled to Germany on June 5, 2025 for a medical review following recommendations from his doctors. It has been nearly a year since he returned from Namibia, where he underwent intensive treatment and evaluations.
“According to the medical reports, doctors are happy with the progress, and they have indicated that they are still monitoring him even when he is here in Uganda,” Hajj Kawaase told journalists in Kampala.
He added that the Kingdom was committed to supporting the Kabaka’s health and recovery journey.
“We promise to follow all the instructions from his doctors because we want him alive so that his subjects can push the kingdom activities well without worrying about his health,” he said.
The Kabaka’s health has been a subject of public concern since 2021 when he appeared visibly unwell during his 66th birthday celebrations at Mengo.
His frail appearance at the time sparked widespread speculation and anxiety among his subjects, prompting the Kingdom to regularly issue updates about his condition and urge the public to remain calm.
Since then, the Kabaka has occasionally made public appearances, with Kingdom officials stressing that his medical team is closely monitoring and managing his condition both within Uganda and abroad.
Katikkiro Mayiga has called upon the people of Buganda to continue praying for the Kabaka’s full recovery, noting that the Kingdom places the utmost importance on the well-being of its monarch.
“The life and health of the Kabaka remain a top priority for the Kingdom,” he emphasized.
The Kingdom has not disclosed the exact destination of the Kabaka’s current medical visit nor the specific nature of his treatment, maintaining the practice of preserving the monarch’s medical privacy.
Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II returned to Uganda on July 21 ,2024 , days after the Namibian government declined to extend his stay in the South African country- where he had been recuperating since April 14, 2024.This came after he had spend several weeks in Germany where had gone for medical treatment .
