Excitement is building up among members of opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) following a pronouncement that scrutiny of party f
lag bearers for next year’s General Election will commence on Monday .
Members of the NUP electoral management committee (EMC) made the announcement on Friday during a press conference at the party headquarters in Makerere- Kavule .
According to NUP’s reviewed electoral roadmap, the vetting process for Local Government candidates from Kampala will start on Monday July 28th.
“LCV chairpersons, city Mayors, and KCCA division candidates will be vetted between 14th-18th August. Wakiso District Local Government candidates will be vetted between August 2nd-7th” a statement issued by the party reads in part .
Vetting for sub-region Local Government candidates ,the party announced that will be held between August 8th-13th. Candidates aspiring for Member of Parliament will be vetted from August 20th to 27th.
“Note,a temporary extension has been granted to candidates who are still struggling with the verification of their UNEB documents, NCHE and candidates whose names need to be gazette,” the statement adds
NUP ,is currently Uganda’s main position party and has been in existence for only five years .It enjoys much support among the youth who consists 75 percent of Uganda’s population .
