KOLOLO. Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman legislator Anita Among has won the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM after defeating the incumbent and First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga .
According to results announced late on Wednesday night by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Tanga Odoi, Among garnered 11,680 votes, representing 92.8 percent of the total ballots cast. Kadaga collected 902 votes ( 7.2 percent) . A total of 12,582 delegates participated in the election conducted at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds during the party ongoing National Delegates Conference .
“I therefore declare Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among as the duly elected Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM,” Odoi said in his declaration dated August 27, 2025.
The victory secures Among’s seat on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s top decision-making organ, cementing her status as one of the most influential figures in President Museveni’s inner circle. Three years ago, Kadaga, who is the incumbent Kamuli District Woman MP also lost Speaker of Parliament seat –placing her on the exit door of Uganda’s national politics
Dr. Odoi said the election was conducted in line with the party’s internal regulations, describing the process as “transparent and peaceful.”

Kadaga, 69 a veteran NRM figure and influential leader from the Busoga sub region, had accused sections of the party of voter bribery, intimidation, and abuse of office during the run-up to the vote.
On the other hand Among, 51 who became Speaker of Parliament in 2022, has campaigned as a mobilizer, unifier, and advocate for grassroots strengthening within NRM.
Her landslide victory consolidates her growing influence ahead of next year’s General Elections and signals a generational shift in the party’s leadership.
Results from Wednesday polls are expected to reshape power dynamics within the ruling NRM, bolstering Among’s position within Museveni’s camp while raising fresh questions about the future role of Kadaga, who has long been a dominant force in party politics.
