
KAMPALA . Police in Masaka Sub Region are investigating circumstances under which fire gutted a boys dormitory at Wagwa High school in Lukaya Town Council ,Kalungu District destroying property worth millions.
The fire whose cause is yet to be identified occurred at about 8 :30pm on Wednesday evening
It is said that at the time of the incident students ,mainly Senior Four candidates were in class for evening preps.
“ We were surprised to see smoke coming from our dormitory , we made alarms that draw residents and other students to the burning dormitory and tried to stop the fire but all in vain,” one of the students said
Southern regional police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye confirmed the fire incident saying police investigations into the cause of the inferno that left all students personal effects and revision books destroyed had kicked off.
“Though students property was lost in the inferno no lives were lost.We thank God for this ,” he said
He however asked school management committees to invest in procuring fire fighting tools like fire extinguishers so that they can help during such disasters .
“ When the police fire brigade delays to get the crime scene, such equipment can help to extinguish fire ,” he said
The police with the help of residents however managed to fight fire from spreading to other buildings at the school.
