Manchester United has unveiled a sweeping transformation plan aimed at restoring financial stability and improving operational efficiency, as the club seeks to recover from five consecutive years of financial losses.
The restructuring initiative, announced by CEO Omar Berrada, is designed to streamline operations and enhance long-term sustainability, ultimately enabling increased investment in both men’s and women’s football, as well as infrastructure improvements. However, as part of this overhaul, the club anticipates 150 to 200 job redundancies, in addition to the 250 staff positions cut last year.
In a statement, Berrada acknowledged the difficulty of these decisions but emphasized their necessity for the club’s future.
“We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s, and academy teams. Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies, and we deeply regret the impact on affected colleagues,” Berrada said.
“We have lost money for the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money.”

The club’s new approach aims to create a “lean, agile, and financially sustainable” operation while maintaining a strong commercial appeal. United also reaffirmed its commitment to meeting UEFA and Premier League regulations, ensuring compliance with financial fair play rules.
Despite the planned job reductions, the club insists that these changes will strengthen its ability to compete at the highest level and position it for future success both on and off the pitch. However, the move has drawn criticism from some supporters, who have expressed concerns over cost-cutting measures implemented under minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group.
With Manchester United enduring one of its most challenging seasons in decades, this restructuring marks a pivotal moment for the club as it looks to rebuild its fortunes and reassert itself as a dominant force in football.
