Uganda’s ESG Evolution: New Survey Aims to Redefine Corporate Responsibility

A groundbreaking initiative to measure and understand the state of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices in Uganda has been launched by Kasi Insight, a leading decision intelligence platform in Africa, in partnership with Capital One Group (COG EA Ltd), a strategic communications firm.

This nationwide survey is the first of its kind and is designed to provide an in-depth look into how Ugandan businesses are integrating ESG principles into their operations. It comes at a time when sustainable business practices are increasingly seen as essential to long-term profitability and societal impact.

“We believe data-driven insight is essential for any serious ESG transformation,” said Ernest Ssekisonge, Managing Director at Kasi Insight. “This survey will bridge a critical gap in local knowledge by revealing where businesses stand, what they’re struggling with, and what actions they need to prioritize.”

The survey explores multiple sectors and seeks to uncover both the opportunities and barriers facing Ugandan organizations as they work toward more sustainable and inclusive models. It builds on momentum from the inaugural ESG Summit held in June 2025, where industry leaders, government officials, and development partners discussed Uganda’s ESG future.

According to Paul Mwirigi Muriungi, Managing Director and Head of Strategy at Capital One Group, the survey is a natural next step after the summit’s success. “The insights we gather will help shape the ESG narrative in Uganda and provide the private sector with a much-needed benchmark,” he noted.

The findings of the survey are expected to be released during an awards ceremony scheduled for October 22, 2025. This event will not only recognize ESG leadership but also offer stakeholders access to the report’s actionable insights, which are expected to inform corporate strategies and national policy alike.

As global attention increasingly shifts toward sustainability and responsible governance, Uganda’s move to collect concrete ESG data signals a commitment to align with broader development goals. For businesses, this survey offers more than just metrics,  it offers a mirror and a map for a more sustainable future.
