Kyabazinga rallies Basoga to unite, fight malaria during 11th coronation anniversary

The Kyazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV
has appealed to the ethnic Basoga to unite if the kingdom is to achieve significant community development.

Speaking during his 11th coronation anniversary at Bugembe Palace in Jinja City , the Kyabazinga stressed the need for stakeholder collaboration, urging active participation in addressing issues such as malaria and teenage pregnancies in the Busoga sub-region.

“ I implore my people to leverage government programmes designed to enhance household incomes and improve residents’ quality of life. For centuries, Busoga was acknowledged as the area’s abundant food basket. I also call upon fathers, brothers, and community leaders to safeguard girls and participate in combating teenage pregnancies,” he said

This initiative is part of his ‘Abasadha N’empango’ programme , spearheaded by the Kyabazinga Initiatives and managed under his office. Through these efforts, the Kyabazinga aims to create a more prosperous and inclusive environment for every individual in the Busoga sub-region.

The Rt Hon Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, read President Museveni’s speech and congratulated the Kyabazinga for welcoming the two Royal Princes in his Royal Family.

“We all have a part to play in making the NRM vision come to pass and we should master our might without compromise to work hard in the government eradication programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other Wealth Creation initiatives,” he said

Nabbanja later handed over Shs20m to add on the sh60m he sent earlier as his contribution towards organising the Kyabazinga 11th Coronation Anniversary. He handed over the cash to Prime Minister Muvawala

The Kyabazinga of Busoga was abolished in 1967 when Milton Obote, the President of Uganda, disbanded all traditional institutions within the country. The Kyabazinga was restored with the restoration of traditional institutions in 1993 and Busoga re-crowned Henry Wako Muloki on 11 February 1995.

However , following Muloki’s demise turmoil engulfed Busoga on who to succeed him with a section of Basoga fronting his son Edward Colombus Wambuzi as new Kyabazinga while others backed Gabula Nadiope .This succession battle raged on for several years until leaders of chiefdoms of Buganda agreed that Nadiope takes over the mantle .
