NAKASONGOLA . National Unity Platform(NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has urged youth to fully participate in the January polls ,saying it is the only way to set the destiny .
He said if the youth –who comprise the large population of Uganda (75 percent) fail to choose the next President ,they will have no right to complain about the wrongs if the incumbent Yoweri Museveni extends his rule beyond 40years .
“ The future of Uganda is in your hands .If you turn out in big numbers and vote , however much they manipulate the process , the many votes will overwhelm all their machinations. But if you sit home and don’t vote , they will vote for you and determine the next president ,” Mr Kyagulanyi said during a rally in Nakasongola District on Friday
He further urged President Yoweri Museveni to relinquish power peacefully or risk facing the anger of Ugandans.
“ I know Gen. Salim Saleh , he was once my friend . In their family ,he is the only reasonable one , I ask him to advise the president to opt for a peaceful exit.. Museveni is too old — he doesn’t even know what year it is. And the son — look at how he behaves. He boasts about killing our people; he boasts about torturing our people. You see how they kidnap our people and torture our brothers,” he said
“I am telling you, Gen Saleh , you still have a chance. We are not bad people, but don’t test us — don’t test Ugandans, because you will not win,” he added.
Bobi Wine also addressed President Museveni directly, saying that despite widespread frustration with his four-decade rule, Ugandans could still forgive him if he chose a peaceful retirement. His comments drew audible disapproval from parts of the crowd when he suggested Museveni still had an opportunity to step down peacefully.
“Even when Ugandans are angry with Museveni, we can forgive him if he hands over power peacefully. If he retires and we protect him, we can pardon him. However, if he insists on clinging to power and keeps imposing himself on Ugandans, they will roast him like a chicken,” Bobi Wine said — using a provocative metaphor to underscore his warning.
