Emirates Airline has celebrated 25 years of operations in Uganda, marking a significant milestone since its maiden flight to Entebbe International Airport on March 25, 2000. The inaugural route, launched with three weekly flights via Nairobi to Dubai, has since grown into a robust air link connecting Uganda to the world.
The silver jubilee celebration took place on October 15, 2025, at Entebbe International Airport, where the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Dr. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, served as Guest of Honour. In his remarks, Gen. Katumba acknowledged the long-standing partnership between Emirates and Uganda, underscoring its role in enhancing connectivity, creating trade opportunities, and fostering cultural and knowledge exchange.
“As Uganda aspires to become a leading tourism hub in the region and position Entebbe International Airport as a model of innovation and service excellence, our partnership with Emirates is essential,” said Gen. Katumba. He also commended the airline for its confidence in Uganda’s aviation sector, which continues to uphold international standards for safety and reliability.

The Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting Emirates’ continued growth. He emphasized plans to further improve the passenger experience at Entebbe International Airport to ensure its status as a premier regional gateway.
Mr. Rashid Alardha, Emirates Vice President for the Sub-Saharan Africa region, expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government and aviation regulators for creating a conducive business environment. He highlighted the airline’s vision for deeper collaboration and innovation in Uganda, aiming to build a legacy of excellence in service, technology, and knowledge transfer across Africa.
The event drew high-level attendance from ministries, government agencies, and airline executives, underscoring the importance of the occasion in the regional aviation landscape.
