KAMPALA: Casual workers and transport sector players have been urged to embrace digital transactions as a way of improving business efficiency, security and financial management.
The call was made during the launch of the Union Duuka application, a digital platform introduced by the Allied Transporters Union to enable members to conduct shopping and other business transactions electronically rather than relying on cash.
The application was launched on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Hotel Africana in Kampala and will be administered through Ruka Pay Seamless Payments.
Allied Transporters Union Project Advisor Fred Ssenoga said the transport sector, which has a large membership, had taken an important step by embracing digital technology in its business operations.
Ssenoga encouraged members to fully adopt the platform, saying digital transactions are increasingly becoming an important part of modern business.
He urged members not to abandon the initiative, but instead use it to improve the way they conduct transactions and manage their finances.
Meanwhile, Union Boda Chairman Frank Maweje welcomed the initiative, saying the application could benefit riders by making transactions easier while encouraging them to save and improve their financial management.
He said the digital platform has the potential to strengthen financial discipline among members and provide them with a more convenient way of accessing services.
